As leaders, we feel and sense as much as we think. The emotional leader works intelligently with emotion, considering it a vital element of their leadership and developing leadership within others. They are emotionally literate, able to label the full spectrum of emotion, they understand the difference between emotion and feelings and actively invite them all into the leadership with respect and proportion.
Recognising all that it is to be human, the emotional leader has depth of knowledge around the impact of emotion on our thinking patterns and our physical bodies. In themselves, they remain emotionally open, empathetic and compassionate, yet are able to support others because they can maintain a healthy detachment.
